What is Flow?
Flow is a concept introduced by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi to describe a mental state in which a person is fully immersed in an activity — experiencing energized focus, full involvement, and a sense of deep enjoyment.
Characteristics of Flow
- Complete concentration — attention is entirely on the task at hand
- Loss of self-consciousness — you stop worrying about how you appear to others
- Time distortion — time feels like it speeds up or slows down
- Intrinsic reward — the activity itself becomes the reward

Challenge High
Flow is most likely to occur when the level of challenge matches your skill level. Too easy leads to boredom; too hard leads to anxiety.
Practical Applications
- Choose tasks that are slightly beyond your current comfort zone
- Eliminate distractions to create an environment that supports focus
- Set clear goals and seek immediate feedback on your progress
